Online Pilates and Guided Stretch Classes, Tips for Disinfecting Your Own Equipment

Posted on March 17, 2020January 14, 2025 by pilatesnative

Friends,

I hope this email finds you safe and healthy.  With the whole world going bananas right now, I wanted to check in and see how you are doing.

You’ve probably received about a thousand emails the last week from every business you’ve ever interacted with, discussing cleaning protocols and business hours.

Lucky for us, I’m a germaphobe and all of those recommended cleaning practices are the norm in the studio.  I also spent Sunday steam cleaning the tower, reformer and all of the equipment.

If you’d like to clean your own equipment, Lysol wipes, disinfectant wipes or a bleach/water solution are a great way to clean balls, mats, straps and anything else.

You can also spray down your mat with some light bleach water, rinse it down outside w/ the hose and hang to dry.  You want to make sure all of the bleach water or disinfectant is completely rinsed from your mat.  There are pinterest tutorials showing you that you can wash a  mat in the washing machine, but from experience, this is a bad idea!  Best to hose it down and hang to dry.  You probably want to avoid putting your mat or any equipment in the dryer too!  haha

I am also writing to let you know that if you need a break from the news, remote work, homes schooling, and standing in long lines for groceries, I will be offering 30-min online Pilates privates and guided stretch sessions via zoom.  These online sessions can be arranged as privates or to accommodate small groups (everyone logging in remote from their location).  This is a great way to “hang out” with your friends while social distancing, getting in a work out and supporting your mental health.

Any in-person sessions can also be offered as private online sessions.

New sessions booked the next few weeks will be online sessions.  I’m working on the tech behind all of this, but pricing will change a bit to accommodate the online sessions.   Because this is brand new, please contact me via email to sign up for an online session or transfer your current in-person sessions to web sessions.

I will be offering an online pay-what-you-can/donation based Anti-Anxiety Guided Stretch Session on March 18 and March 22, with additional classes being added throughout the week.  Please feel free to share these links.  I would love to “see” all of you over the next few weeks.

This is not yoga or pilates.  No equipment, experience or fitness level required.  All you need is a space large enough for you to lay down on and something soft to lay on if you prefer.  This can be a mat, beach towel, blanket, or even stretch in bed!  All humans (tiny and regular size) and all 4-legged friends are welcome to join for these events.

I know you have a lot of great free online options but please support your local studios as well if you can.  A lot of your small yoga and Pilates studios are transitioning to offering online classes.   Most of us are not web gurus, so this is a big change and a quick pivot, but with your help, your local studios can weather this storm.

I am here if you need resources for anything yoga/pilates/stretch related.

Take care, stay safe and remember to rest.
All the best,
Rubecca
