Standing Postures: Flat Back

Posted on February 24, 2021January 14, 2025 by pilatesnative

Have you heard the saying “sitting is the new smoking”?

Aside from medical causes these next two posture types, Flat Back and Sway Back, can be linked to sitting in poor posture for extended periods of time.

If you have this posture type, which you’ll recognize from the extreme lack of lumbar curve, you may have constantly tight abdominals and an achy low back.

Today’s post focuses on the what this posture looks like, common associated muscle patterns, aches/pains/injuries and what you can do to work towards that “ideal” posture type.
